Being one of the basic emotions of human being, anger occurs regularly in our daily life. When being asked whether anger is a good emotion or not, the answers usually come back with "NO". Although anger is normally understood as an uncontrollable emotion which would usually do harm to our life, I also find that anger is an suppressed emotion which signifies changes and has its positive sides.
Anger is an energy. Musicians channel their anger into rock songs, reformers translate it into movements, designers turn it into products. Anger is powerful and productive. Take myself into account, I am not an angry or aggressive person, in the contrast, I am quite peaceful in daily life. Anger seems quite away from me in this sense. This situation does not only what I am experiencing, but for every citizens. The expression of anger is inhibited through socialization. In my view, how we manage anger, not just suppress it, but to provoke or even celebrate it is the key for individuals to communicate with themselves and the society.
This project investigates into anger deeply and tries to explore how anger, this uncontrollable emotion, could be nurtured through systematic training. This report documents the research and activities I did, which include cultural probes, public intervention, literature review, performances and so on, through out the 11 weeks independent project, showing a deep investigation into the area of anger.
